On Monday 22nd August, at 9am, Xp 38 hull #1 took to the water at the X-Yachts marina at the head of the Haderslev Fjord.
The Xp 38 was unveiled in October last year, with a planned “public-launch” at X-Yachts’ annual “In- house” floating boat show, which takes place during the last weekend in August.
The Xp 38 is the second member of X-Yachts’ 4th generation Performance-Cruiser range.
The first, the Xp 44, was launched earlier this year in April, and has been praised by the international yachting press, as well as being nominated for European Yacht of the Year. Since the first Xp 44 hit the water, a total of 10 further boats have been launched, and the first race results and test results can be studied at our homepage.
The new generation of Xperformance yachts has full epoxy foam sandwich hulls utilizing vacuum infusion for light weight and durability. The substantial carbon fibre reinforced hull/keel girders handle all the loads from both the keel and the mast.
The composite interior is both light and bright and incorporates the best features from the Xp 44, including the sliding navigation station and navigator’s seat.
The resulting weight saving has enabled the new Xperformance yachts to become approx 10% stiffer than traditional X-Yachts, and substantially stiffer than the competition which is a great benefit for both the cruising-oriented as well as the performance sailor.
The maiden voyage of the Xp 38 began just a few hours after launching. Pushing off from the dock, the standard 29 HP Sail-drive engine pushed “eXcellence of Haderslev” through Haderslev Fjord at 7.2 knots, at a very comfortable 2300 rpm.
The test-sail conditions were extremely pleasant with a light to fresh westerly and sunshine. Sails were hoisted and unfurled and the enjoyment really began.
”She is exactly as we hoped for, stiff, fast and very easy to manage, everything is located where is belongs. Look at the photos…they speak for themselves…”
“Instruments weren´t calibrated, but she felt very slippery, accelerated fast out of tacks and was just a delight to steer and sail.”
The first Xp 38 has been configured for cruising with the standard alloy mast and standard draft keel; while a teak deck and white bowsprit complete the elegant look. Future orders include versions specified for racing under both IRC and ORC, for which the Xp 38 has been intensively optimized, with options including a Southern Spars carbon mast, grand prix deck-layout and deeper keel to add a further performance boost to the Xp 38 package.
X-Yachts is experiencing remarkable sales success in 2011 and now has a healthy order book for more than 100 yachts. Almost 60% of build slots are filled with the new Xp 38 and Xp 44 models.
The Xp 38 will be on display at the major Autumn Boat Shows throughout Europe, beginning with Amsterdam and Southampton in September.
A third member of the new Xperformance Range, the new Xp 50, will be revealed within 14 days, with a launch date set for April 2012…..
